We need grass in our yard. Really bad.
Why don't we have any, you ask? To have grass, one would need some water to make it grow. And the good Lord has not seen fit to provide us much this year (or any year, for that matter). We haven't had any measurable precipitation for something like 40 days. The total we've gotten so far this year is FIVE inches. Total. In nine months.
So that means we need a sprinkler system for our potential grass. But since water is so scarce here, it is also very expensive when it comes from a municipal system [think basic economics here...]. I'm talking $200 a month to keep your yard watered. Ouch.
Well, my husband, the do-anything-to-save-a-dollar man, discovered this lovely contraption:

Did you guess that it is a homemade, motor-powered well-pounding machine?
I am sure that was your next guess. He spent a whole Saturday running that monster.
At one point he had me help. All I could think was how in the world he was going to explain to my poor mother what happened to her pregnant daughter when that 350 pound weight came crashing down on my head from 25 feet in the air.
That pulley looks safe, right? I am sure it's OSHA approved.
We've got the business card of the man who rents out this bad boy, the creator himself. I'd be happy to pass on the info.
And now, we have a fully operational, water-providing well to nourish our lush landscape. For free.
And no one died. Thank you Jesus.
Where the heck did you find that contraption?
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about jetting a well... why did you pick pounding it in instead of jetting one?
A friend told us about a guy in town who built it & rents it out for way cheaper than paying to have a professional do it. We've never heard of jetting a well, seems like everyone here that we know of pounds them.
